What is the Best Yoga Studio in Sheffield?

movement May 07, 2023

One of the most searched for phrases in Sheffield yoga is... "what is the best yoga studio in Sheffield?"

There is no simple answer is it depends on what you are looking for?  However, in this blog post (which we'll keep updated) we'll do our best to provide information about all the main studios so that you can make your own decision as to which is best for you.  Feel free to try out a few of the Studios on offer so you can find your ideal one.

People who try yoga are often looking for different things, pain relief, head space, a spiritual deep dive, improve other sports, join an ace community, yoga really does off so much.

Which is best? Yoga has so many vibes that and people are so wonderfully unique that what is best for one person is not best for another. However, we can use some metrics like Google Reviews and Trust Pilot to try and draw some sort of comparison. We'll also provide a little back ground about each studio so that you can most easily find the studio that could change your world, yoga and Pilates really can do that. Finally, we'll create a table to allow an easy comparison.

As R1SE has yoga studios in Sheffield, we'll only mention our studios at the bottom of the table and rankings, so we'll say what we do and how we do it, but we'll not rank ourselves, although feel free to. make your own minds up if we are the right fit for you.

What types of classes are on offer?

Sheffield has a great yoga scene, you can practice in a variety of yoga studios, gyms (try and avoid the big box, corporate gyms πŸ˜€), and independent teachers offering different styles of yoga, such as Hatha, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Ashtanga, and more (at R1SE we tend to call our classes more recognisable names such as Power, Sculpt, Flex, Flow, Chill & Bliss). The popularity of yoga continues to grow as all health professionals agree how totally awesome it is for your body and mind and how it should be a part of everybody's wellness routine.

Yoga can offer a huge range of class types so there really is a class for every body and we absolutely believe that every body should do yoga.  I love Sculpt (yoga with weights).

Typically a yoga class is between 45 minutes and 90 minutes although practicing yoga for just a couple of minutes still feels wonderful.  Longer classes are usually associated with the more gentle types of yoga (although still challenging) such as Yin.  Doing a 90 minute Power yoga class would certainly be a challenge!

What's your vibe?

Some yoga studios are quite serious, silent & spiritual, others are modern, fun and a little noisier. At some if you arrive a few minutes late then that's cool (life is busy) for others the doors get locked and you can't get in if you are late so as not to disturb other students. Some studios are happy if someone brings a phone in (if they are expecting an important call) others absolutely ban mobiles. Which of these approaches fit you is all about what you are looking for. At R1SE our vibe is very relaxed, we are serious about what we do (as we strive to help people be their best self) whilst we are not serious about ourselves (our classes are often full of laughter, sometime trying to balance is funny).

We feel that yoga & Pilates should be practiced by everyone as they are such a good partner for any other sporting endeavour and an amazing antidote to modern life. So where ever you are planning on practicing yoga just make sure you do and make it part of your life not just your January.

Where are all these yoga Studios?

The Google Maps image below shows the spread of the main studios in and around Sheffield.

How much does yoga in Sheffield normally cost?

Most Yoga studios in Sheffield have some sort of intro offer / new student special so that you can try them out, this can be a free class but most often it is a certain number of classes over a limited period of time, usually 2-4 weeks. After you have done your intro then you will normally be offered a membership. This can be for a certain number of classes per month or unlimited.  In Sheffield most yoga studios offer "mini memberships" allowing you to come to the studio once per week as well as unlimited memberships.  Most studios also offer single drop in classes and class packs.  Prices vary but you should expect to pay between £20-£50 for an intro offer, mini memberships from about £30 per month and unlimited from about £80-£120 per month.  So as a rough rule expect yoga to cost about £10 per class.  Many studios offer discounts to students, NHS etc.

Some studios also participate in partnership schemes such as ClassPass, GymPass and MoveGB.  This creates even more flexibility as to how you can pay for your yoga fix.

How many classes do they offer a week?

When considering the value of a studios membership you should consider the number of classes offered each week and which ones are appropriate to you. For example if you are male and want a flowing yoga practice to help with flexibility and you want to come 3 times per weeks a studio offering a limited schedule with ladies only and pregnancy classes would not be suitable. In Sheffield it seems the average studio offers about 20 classes per week.  Some of the smaller, specialist studios offer less (maybe 10) and larger studios like R1SE offer 80+ classes per week.  If you are time poor and can only practice at certain times you might be best looking at Studios that offer more classes per week

A Helpful Table

This table is ranked in Alphabetical order as there was just no way to find who was the best, especially as best (comparing yourself to others) is not a very yogic thing.  At R1SE we are all about being the best version of you (best self) and not better than everyone else.
