Deep Dive into Flex 17

movement Sep 11, 2020

Flex 17 is launching next week and I thought you'd enjoy a little sneaky peak and learn more about how we sequence here at R1SE.  It goes a little something like this.....I'm at my computer, have some sort of 'episode' where I fall off my chair and spontaneously starts making shapes (aka yoga poses) around the kitchen whilst Chris wets himself laughing at my attempts to find the perfect flow.

It is the idea of the perfect flow that we're aiming for, with accessibility, challenge, variety and lots of fun!

You'll have noticed how we keep to a similar format for the Flex classes subdividing the sequence into Plank/Backbends, Balance, Lunge, Hips/Core all working towards our Wildcard poses at the end of the session.  Once we have the framework we can explore possible poses and variations which are going to benefit the body and allow people at all levels to progress their practice. We strive for balance across all areas of the body so that you'll feel no muscle groups are left wanting, bringing both strength and flexibility to your practice.

To give you an idea about what's to come here's a cheeky look at the balance section we have in store for you - https://vimeo.com/456914668

I thought it may also be nice to learn more about one of the poses in more detail (remember we have Pose Expose available via On Demand).

Pose feature: Frog pose - what does our amphibian friend do for us?

  • Open hip joints, which reduces strain on the knees.
  • Improve abduction
  • Strengthen the lower back while opening hips.
  • Helps digestion
  • Improves circulation
  • Improves posture

We've added frog pose in towards the end of our sequence as we have already thoroughly warmed up the hips through our balance and lunge sections.

For athletes or people who run, cycle, or perform quick agility moves, frog pose will encourage movement and mobility in the hip and groin area that often becomes tight through repetitive motion.
Done regularly, frog pose can counteract the chronic muscle tightness that often comes along with spending long hours at a desk or in your car. This is especially important if you deal with any back pain or feel tightness in your lower back and hip region after sitting for an extended period.

It's always fun and exciting bringing something new to all you lovely R1SERS as you LOVE the challenge which this style of class brings! You know that there is no pressure to do anything you don't want to and that we'll give you guidance and modifications if you want them.
