Chronic low-grade inflammation is now recognised as the driving factor behind cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer's, autoimmune conditions, depression, chronic pain, and accelerated ageing. Unlike acute inflammation (which heals you), chronic inflammation silently damages tissues over years and decades. At R1SE Sheffield, we offer the most comprehensive anti-inflammatory therapy protocol in the region - HBOT, Red Light Therapy, contrast therapy, compression, and targeted exercise - each independently shown to reduce inflammatory markers, and together addressing inflammation from every pathway simultaneously.

Inflammation is measured through biomarkers including CRP, IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-1β. These markers are elevated in virtually every chronic disease and are strongly predictive of future health outcomes. Chronic low-grade inflammation (measured by elevated CRP, IL-6, TNF-α) is now recognised as the common root mechanism in cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, depression, cancer, and autoimmune conditions (Furman et al., 2019, Nature Medicine).

Regular sauna use (4+ times per week) reduces CRP by up to 40% - a larger effect than most anti-inflammatory medications. The 20-year KIHD study of 2,315 Finnish men found sauna frequency was inversely correlated with every inflammatory biomarker measured (Laukkanen et al., European Journal of Epidemiology).

HBOT modulates the NF-κB pathway - the master switch controlling over 400 inflammatory genes. A single HBOT session measurably reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines, and repeated sessions create cumulative anti-inflammatory effects (Thom, 2011, Physiological Reviews).

Cold exposure at 14°C for 1 hour increases anti-inflammatory norepinephrine by 530% and reduces TNF-α production by up to 40% when immune cells are subsequently challenged (Castellani et al., 2006, Cytokine).

A single session of moderate-intensity exercise triggers an immediate anti-inflammatory response - IL-6 rises acutely (as a myokine, not an inflammatory signal), which then suppresses TNF-α and stimulates IL-10 (anti-inflammatory). Regular exercise creates a chronically anti-inflammatory environment (Pedersen, 2017, Nature Reviews Immunology).
